Subject: Speaker of House of Commons
An invaluable source book giving details of all speakers of the House of Commons from the earliest recorded holder of the office (around 1330) up to the early 20th century. In addition to a chronology for the life of each speaker, key constitutional aspects are also covered. Many of the speakers are also evaluated by the author, for example the degree to which they were placemen for the sovereign or governing party, their defence of parliamentary privileges, etc.
